Composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan (top), feels that singer Arijit Singh (below) is going to get work in the music industry for a long time as he is an educated musician. “Arijit Singh is going to stay for a long time. He knows his music and understands his ‘sargam’. He has got depth. I knew him even before he became Arijit Singh ... he is an educated musician,” says Shankar. “If you are a musician of a very high caliber and your aesthetics of music is high, you will stay for a long time. It’s difficult to sustain, but if you have got quality, then you will establish yourself. There needs to be depth in your music.”

He feels that music in Bollywood keeps evolving with time. “Music keeps trending with the changes that happen in the story. It’s like fashion. But with changes, you have to maintain its sanctity and esthetics, which are ‘sur’ and ‘taal’,” Shankar says.
