Foods to stay warm during winters
As soon as winter approaches, we stock our wardrobe with woollens. But it is also important to keep our bodies warm by including the right food in our diet. Here’s a list of five foods that will keep you warm:
■ Ginger: It reduces high cholesterol and hence is the best choice to keep the body fit during winters. With its antibacterial properties, it helps treat cough and cold. It can be chewed raw or can be added to soup and dishes to enhance the flavour.
■ Honey: It is great for combating cold and cough during winter. Even if it is sweet, honey doesn’t add calories and keeps the body warm.
■ Nuts: Peanuts, walnuts and almonds are the best source of good cholesterol, vitamins, fibre and Omega-3 fatty acids. They make for essential snacking during winters, as they are naturally hot.
■ Cinnamon: This spice, when added to a cooked dish, soup or salad, enhances the flavour and helps fight winter viruses.
■ Garlic: Its antibacterial agents protect from throat infections. It also keeps the cholesterol level in check. Add three to four garlic cloves daily to cooked dishes.
