Producers often assume that if Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh is acting in their films, he will sing for them as well. However, that has not gone down too well with the singer-actor, who says that he must start charging for the songs which he sings for films that he is acting in.

“Mujhe lagta hai ki mujhe gaane ke paise alag se lene chahiye. Lekin hum sab friends ho gaye hain, toh abhi bolunga ki gaane ke paise alag se lunga, toh unko bura lagega. Business wise toh mujhe lene chahiye. Because agar main alag se album bhi karta hoon, toh woh alag se bikegi,” says Diljit during his visit to Hindustan Times.

However, objecting to this practice seems to be quite a task for the singer. “Lekin mana toh nahi kar sakte. Film pe aapki izzat tik jati hai. Aur jab izzat pe baat aati hai toh banda kuch bhi karta hai,” he says.

Diljit, who is eagerly waiting for the release of his next Punjabi film Mukhtiar Chadha, is also making his Bollywood debut this year with filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey’s upcoming film alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor.

However, the actor says that he will never leave regional films for Bollywood. “If the subjects for the Bollywood films look interesting then I’ll definitely do it. It’s not compulsory for me to act in every film that I’m offered. I don’t really need to do that as I am very happy with my career in music and Punjabi films. It gives me the ability to choose my work. Aisa nahi hai ki koi bhi mujhe Bollywood film offer karega toh mein kar lunga,” he says.
