Cruise in talks for The Mummy’ re­boot

Hol­ly­wood ac­tor Tom Cruise (above) is re­port­edly in talks to join Univer­sal’s re­boot of The Mummy. Alex Kurtz­man is di­rect­ing the movie, which is set to launch a new mon­ster uni­verse, said The Hol­ly­wood Re­porter. Sources say that the pro­duc­ers have been look­ing for a big star to an­chor the film, and are hop­ing Cruise will fill that role. The film will be set in present day and is likely to release in 2017. Jon Spai­hts has writ­ten the script al­though plot de­tails are be­ing kept a se­cret. Univer­sal’s The Mummy is the first of many films that will re­new Univer­sal’s legacy of mon­sters. Other po­ten­tial films re­volve around the char­ac­ters of Drac­ula, Franken­stein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Franken­stein, and vam­pire hunter Van Hels­ing. The shoot for the film will start in mid-Fe­bru­ary.
