The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — the world’s pre-eminent movie-related organisation that also conducts the Oscars — wants actor Freida Pinto to be part of their empaneled members, along with veteran actor Sharmila Tagore and Indo-Canadian film director Deepa Mehta. “Freida is the youngest Indian to be given this honour due to her work internationally, and her social work for the empowerment of girls,” says a source.

“I’m excited and looking forward to the responsibilities and duties. Voting for deserving and diverse talent will be an honour,” says Freida, 31, who joins the roster with Canadian actor Rachel McAdams, director Patty Jenkins, British actor-musician Idris Elba, Chinese-American producer James Hong.
