WHEN IN ROME...

On our way to the hotel, we spotted several pizza joints that had us craving for “authentic Italian cuisine” and we indulged in Margherita pizzas. The next day, we went to The Colosseum. Built in 70 AD, this 48m-high amphitheatre was erected primarily for gladiator contests. “The gladiators used to remain underground before they made their entry for combat,” narrated our tour guide. While two-thirds of the original structure is currently in ruins, what remains of this architectural gem makes it one of the most-visited tourist attractions in the world. From The Colosseum, one can head to the Roman Forum and check out more ancient ruins. Take a stroll down and you will see temples of Roman Gods such as Janus, Venus and Titus. They say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” And experiencing the nightlife is a must-do. We hit the streets near the river Tiber which come alive at night. Packed with cafés and bars, the streets are buzzing with buskers till the wee hours of the morning.
