Even though he was much older than me, we were friends. I first spent time with him in Mum­bai in mid-60s, then in Paris in 1971, af­ter which we spent time to­gether when he moved to Delhi. Raza was a very re­served, dif­fer­ent and ma­ture man, and he was a highly re­spected artist. Orig­i­nally, he did land­scape work, then, he moved to ge­o­met­ri­cal work, and af­ter that his work was cen­tred around the ‘Bindu.’ A man of few words, a great thing he did was the set­ting up of the Raza Foun­da­tion (that aims at pro­mot­ing young artists).
