Actors John Abraham and Varun Dhawan – made their way to HT City to meet the winners of Stars In The City contest for their upcoming release Dishoom. John has earlier worked with Varun’s brother Rohit Dhawan when the latter directed him in Desi Boyz. This time, Varun and John share screen space in Dishoom, helmed by Rohit.

Talking about their longstanding association, John said, “Varun and I knew each other since Desi Boyz. So we got along from the first minute on day one. There was no extra effort. It was really easy. I wish I was sidelined and had something to say, but honestly, I was a part of their family. Gone are the days when we used to publicise the film with ‘ye actor and wo actor ke beech kuch problem hai’.” But for Varun, working with his brother wasn’t all hunky dory. As Varun put it, “He is definitely a strict director. Throughout the shoot he told me, ‘Be Junaid Ansari. Be the character’. In fact, Rohit and I never interacted post shoots. Our interactions were limited to the set.”

Varun said the real reason for taking up a project like this was the immense respect he has for the men in uniform. John and Varun play cops who have to rescue a high-profile kidnapped cricketer in the film. “I love police officers. I love the Army. I really look up to them. So, when I got this opportunity I almost took it up like a case. Like India’s top batsman — Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, got kidnapped and you’ve to bring him back. I play a Middle Eastern cop and I learnt some Arabic from my driver who was from Islamabad, Pakistan.” Recently, the makers of Dishoom has a strategy to deal with piracy and film leaks before the release. Being a producer, John says it’s one of the biggest threats in the film industry today and that it needs to be dealt with strictly. “I just think the system failed and we are trying to correct it. We are hoping the film doesn’t get leaked.”
