This winter, there’s one trend celebrities are falling for: Velvet. The resurgence of the quintessential 90s trend dominated runways from Paris to New York this year. So who can blame style mavens back home for jumping on the bandwagon?

But velvet, say designers, is a tricky fabric. So there are a few things to keep in mind before you go for it. Designer Gaurav Jai Gupta says, “The trend is not for everyone. Velvet is a luxurious fabric and if not styled appropriately, it can go really wrong. The good thing is that it’s versatile so you can wear it for formal dos or parties, but make sure you accessorise right.”

Stylist Vikram Seth says, “Velvets are shiny so don’t go for bold lip colours — it’ll make you look gothic. Opt for nude lips and solid nail paints. For an evening soiree wear heels and if it’s a casual event, you can even try sneakers.”
