merican singer Beyonce Knowles (left) has dethroned pop star Taylor Swift to win the title of 2016’s Most Charitable Celebrity in an annual Celebs Gone Good list by DoSomething.org, reports aceshowbiz.com.
During her performance at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in August, Beyonce helped raise awareness about Black Lives Matter movement and anti-gun violence campaigns by bringing out the mothers of young men killed in high-profile shooting. She also donated more than $82,000 (`55.5 lakh) for Flint and played a Tidal charity concert to support education.
At number two in the list is American actor-composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who had teamed up with singer-actor Jennifer Lopez for a charity single, Love Makes The World Go Round, after the shooting at a gay club in Orlando in June. The proceeds of the song were used in helping the victims and survivors.
Swift, meanwhile, lands at number three. She had donated $1 million (`6.8 crore) to help those impacted by the flood in Louisiana.
Fan votes and expert opinion contributed to the winners list that also featured singer Demi Lovato, actor Shailene Woodley, professional wrestler, John Cena, singers Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and actors Zendaya Coleman and Jesse Williams.
