Colombia is seeing a surge in interest as a travel destination for 2017, with the country set to climb out from the shadow of its neighbours Brazil and Peru.

A price comparison site has shown the country’s increasing popularity. On their list of trending destinations for 2017, two Colombian cities, Cartagena and Medelli cracked the top 10 list. While Cartagena, sixth on the list, saw a 31 percent spike in flight activity and topped the list of wallet-friendly flights, Medellin Rose 28 percent. Last year, Cartagena was spotlighted as one of the best 21 destinations to visit in 2017. Snowbirds have set sights on Asia, as half of top 10 locations are newcomers from Phuket, Bali, Colombo Maldives and Okinawa.
