Who says boys don’t wear eyeliner? It’s called ‘guyliner’ and it is a beauty staple for fashion forward men who dare to be different. Actor and musician Jared Leto, comedian Russell Brand and actor Johnny Depp are known for their love for the ‘guyliner’. Legends such as Charlie Chaplin and David Bowie used to line their eyes with black pencils. The trend is popular on the ramp, too, with male models wearing kajal for that intense look.

Now, with Bollywood trendsetters going for surma and kohl-lined eyes, guyliner is going to be major trend this season. Actor Shah Rukh Khan wears surma in his recently released film Raees. Actor Ranveer Singh, too, went for kohl-lined eyes at a recent event.

“The guyliner trend is a hit this season. Grooms are going for black eyeliner, kajal and kohl. If you have the personality to carry it off, it can look great. I like smudged eyeliners on guys for that rustic, rugged look,” says Vidya Tikari, make-up artist.

However, this fierce, intense look is not easy to pull off. “The look is not for everyone. It looks great on those who have long or medium hair. It also works better with ethnic wear,” says stylist Vikram Seth

Designer Nida Mahmood suggests going for subtly lined eyes. “You also need to get your eyebrows and beard in shape first,” she says.
