EK PRODUCER KAAFI HAI GHAR PE: VIDYA
The actor says her husband Siddharth does a great job as a producer, but she’s not cut out for the role
At a time when several actors are also turning producers, Vidya Balan says she’s best away from that role, and that it suits hubby, producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor. “I don’t have the bandwidth to be a producer or a director. Ek producer kaafi hai ghar pe (one producer is enough at home). Producer and director ko bahut logon ko jhelna padta hai. I can’t. And Siddharth and I have decided not to work together. I get passionately involved in my work and I start taking everything personally so we might have fights at home. I marvel at couples who work together,” says Vidya, 38. She also opens up about her hunger for good work, regardless of the medium. Excerpts:
In the past, you’ve worked on TV (Hum Paanch). Are you open to take up work on television?
I’m not sure if I’m okay with doing fiction (shows) in India. I don’t find them exciting. But I’d surely be open to a TV series abroad.
What if there is a finite series in India?
Yes, why not? In fact, I have been offered one before. It didn’t work out because the script wasn’t that great. Be it web series or TV series, I’m just a hungry actor. I don’t want to be restricted to cinema alone.
What do you expect from your career — creative satisfaction or money?
I have never chased money. I came to the industry to be an actor, to live different people’s lives, to tell different stories and that’s what I am doing. I think money and stardom follow. I feel very blessed to have the life that I do.
