‘PHOOL’ING AROUND: ROSE PRICES ARE UP
Picking out the perfect flower is no bed of roses when Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Expect exorbitant prices. A stem of red rose, otherwise priced between `10 and `20, can even cost `250 on V-Day.
“A bunch of roses, of six to twelve flowers, is sold between `700 and `1,400 around this time. Delhiites don’t mind paying extra for their loved ones,” says Raju, a local vendor in Connaught Place.
Prices vary with the area. The most expensive roses are sold in Saket, followed by CP and then Kamla Market. Local vendors buy flowers from whole sale flower mandis and sell them at sky-high prices. “I’ve even sold a red rose at `300. Pink, yellow, orange and white roses are lesser-priced,” says Sameer, a florist at Saket.
As for Kamla Nagar, the student adda, florist Manish Kumar says, “Bache ek gulab ke 100 rupee tak hi dete hai. (DU students don’t mind paying up to `100 for a rose).
Not up for that? Head to wholesale flower mandis in Chattarpur and Ghazipur for easy-breezy prices like `5 a stem, and `60 for a bunch of twelve.
