A musical tribute

Hindustan Times (Patna) - Live - - Lifestyle -

When veteran singer KJ Yesudas was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan last week, one person, who couldn’t stop gushing about the honour, was designer and social activist Sanjana Jon.

Ask her about her uncle’s (Yesudas) achievement, and Jon says, “I’m speechless. I’ve grown up listening to his music. His simplicity and humility are beyond words. He has turned into a vegetarian and even now, he gets up everyday at 5am for his riyaaz (practice). He is a true inspiration to me.”

Jon organised an event with the assistance of the trust, Sree Narayana Global Mission to honour her uncle. “Everyone wanted to come and congratulate him and they all went out of their way to do so. It was a wonderful gesture.”

Calling Yesudas a father figure, Jon says, “He still scolds

me, and criticises me, just like a father critiques his daughter. He is my guide and philosopher.”
