Varma (above) took a dig at the Na­tional Awards, say­ing ac­tor Aamir Khan’s de­ci­sion to skip all award events points at the los­ing rel­e­vance of the sys­tem in In­dia. The 55-year-old di­rec­tor took to Twit­ter to share his views. “The fact that Aamir Khan, the great­est film­maker of In­dia does not at­tend any award events, in­clud­ing na­tional award speaks, about those events (sic),” wrote Varma.

The Sarkar di­rec­tor fur­ther lauded Aamir for con­tin­u­ing to de­liver good con­tent and not car­ing about re­ceiv­ing awards.

“High­est qual­ity films are made by Aamir and that he doesn’t care to be mea­sured by any In­dian award com­mit­tee, in­clud­ing Na­tional (Awards) speaks loud,” he added. Re­cently, af­ter Ak­shay Kumar won the Na­tional Award for Best Ac­tor for his role in the crime drama Rus­tom, peo­ple ques­tioned the awards. Many from the Bol­ly­wood fra­ter­nity won­dered why films such as Dan­gal and Ali­garh were not con­sid­ered.
