The Cannes Film Festival has been good to Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The first time he went was in 2014, with the Gangs of Wasseypur team. Last year, his film Raman Raghav got huge applause there. This year, he goes again with the biopic Manto, on the life of Saadat Hassan Manto, the film being directed by actorfilmmaker Nandita Das.

Nawaz, who is in Croatia to shoot for his international TV series, says that he’ll join the Manto team at Cannes. He tells us, “I left for Croatia on the 13th to shoot for the BBC series, based on the McMafia thriller series. I’m shooting for the second schedule now. I leave for Cannes on 18th. And around 20th, the promo of Manto will be screened.”

About his feelings for the festival, he says, “I’m excited about going to Cannes — it’s a special moment for me. It’s a great festival and some of the best movies are screened there every year.”

Nawaz adds that he loves the atmosphere at the festival. “It’s special every time. Every actor, big or small, is respected there. It’s an experience that every actor needs to be a part of, at least once in their life,” he says.

I tell Nandita [Das that she is ‘Lady Manto’, because if it weren’t for me, she would’ve easily played this part NAWAZUDDIN SIDDIQUI, ACTOR
