With the 70th edi­tion of the film fes­ti­val in full swing, stars have risen to the chal­lenge of com­pet­ing for the best hair day. This year, the two dis­tinct camps that are con­tend­ing are min­i­mally styled ver­sus rad­i­cally ir­rev­er­ent colours.

Like many a celeb at this year’s event, messy chic was the watch­word for Laetita Casta and Ari­zona Muse’s red car­pet hair. The US model sported a sub­tly spec­tac­u­lar updo at a film pre­miere. The se­cret to the look?

Curl­ing irons with dif­fer­ent bar­rel sizes. The ap­pli­ances were used on some lengths to add tex­ture while a few lengths were left straight. Chignon grips held the ca­sual glam look in place.

Shock­ing colour has also emerged as a key hair trend at Cannes this year. Both ac­tors Kris­ten Ste­wart and Michelle Williams had rocked dra­matic plat­inum crops.

Even brunette bomb­shell Salma Hayek val­i­dated the trend. The star un­der­went a hair makeover for Cannes, don­ning a rose gold wig.
