I grew up on film sets: Zoya Afroz

Actor Zoya Afroz (right) has played the lead role in two films, but her connection with Bollywood goes back to when she was five years old. She had worked as a child actor in films such as Hum Saath Saath Hai (1999) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003).

“There is nothing better than learning things in front of the camera and shooting throughout. Working with an ace director like Sooraj Barjatya was super awesome. I got really good training. I have grown up learning on sets,” says Zoya. The 23-yearold actor, who was recently seen in Sweetey Weds NRI alongside Himansh Kohli, feels that a new actor might not be as prepared for a film as a child actor can be. “Someone who has just started wouldn’t know what to do. I know how things work, so when I go on sets, I am more confident and I know what to do or not do,” she says.

Zoya’s debut film, The Xpose (2014), which starred Himesh Reshammiya, failed to do well at the box office, but this has not deterred her confidence.“I knew what I was getting into when I signed The Xpose. That film has given me recognition. Actors can’t really predict what happens at the box office. I will keep trying, and pushing my luck,” she

says.
