I am not getting any songs, says Shaan

Singer Shaan has sung several chartbuster songs in the past two decades. But, the 44-year-old says he’s now struggling to get work.

“I seem to have been forgotten by my fraternity. It is tough for me to get work. I can’t understand why. I have kept myself updated with the new styles of singing, I have been doing my riyaaz. It’s not that I have been throwing tantrums or have asked for more money. I don’t know why there is this change of heart?” he says, adding, “Even those composers who I’ve worked with, have forgotten me. I am not getting any songs. This is the truth and I don’t want to cover it up by saying that I am being choosy.”

Shaan adds that composers repeating the same singer is not a healthy trend. “Arijit (Singh) is ruling the industry right now. It is unfair to other singers, who are equally good, but are not getting the opportunity to perform. Arijit is good, but it’s not like we can’t do without him. If we keep using the same artist, we are killing the next hit (song), as he will sing it in his own style. Different voices give variation,” he says.

Shaan is currently working on a music web series where he is collaborating with other singers. “It’s a mashup of two songs. It will surprise the listeners,” he says.
