Taapsee Pannu backs out of event; protests against black money

Taapsee Pannu has proven that she sticks to her morals. The Pink (2016) actor, who is often asked to endorse brands and appear at events, recently backed out of an event when she learnt that she would be paid in cash. According to a source, the actor did so because being paid in cash would go against the Indian government’s efforts at turning the economy into a digital one.

A source says, “Taapsee knows the value of hardearned money and always strives to do better in life. She had agreed for a meet and greet event in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. But two days before the event, Taapsee backed out, as she was told that she would be paid in cash. She was against getting hard cash, as that goes against the Indian government’s efforts at digitisation and rooting out black money. She told the organisers to pay her by cheque or transfer the money online, but when they didn’t agree, she backed out.”

Explaining her stand, Taapsee says, “Now that our government has taken such a big step to get rid of black money in our country, this is the least we can do. With the way I travel and invest, cash would have been of no use to me. I think this is the least I can do to make sure there are no black money transactions being made through me.”
