Viaan (inset). Having a famous actor as your mother can be overwhelming for any child, and the 42-year-old says that her son is still trying to understand the concept of fame.

“As a child, Viaan has no sense of why people are coming to take pictures of me. He still doesn’t know what it means to be famous. But, I can see that he has now gradually started to get his head around it. Now he is like, ‘mama you are famous’,” says Shilpa.

The actor also adds that Viaan has many questions about her being an actor and he often asks her why other children at his school call her by her name—Shilpa Shetty. “Whenever he sees me on the television, he knows that I am famous. His friends call me Shilpa Shetty and he often gets curious and asks, ‘why do they call you Shilpa Shetty?’. It’s wonderful to interact with children. They come up the most interesting questions,” says Shilpa (laughs).

The actor, who is busy with her production house, often travels for work. She says that she is glad that nowadays it’s so easy to connect with her family when she is on a trip, thanks to amazing technology.

“Thank God for phones, where you can see your child. I don’t think, I would be able to work without it. I think, being a mother is the best role that I have played so far,” she adds.
