Actor Huma Qureshi, (right) is now planning to launch a production house of her own, along with her brother, actor Saqib Saleem. She says that she was inspired by Anushka Sharma, who was recently praised by senior actor Shabana Azmi for starting a production house, despite being a mainstream actor. “I think what Anushka and Karnesh [Anushka’s brother] are doing, is remarkable. They have paved the way for many who want to get into it [production]. They have produced some really good films [NH10 and Phillauri],” says Huma.

The 30-year-old actor feels that the film industry’s current work environment is more conducive for women to explore different possibilities. “Many women have started becoming producers, and it’s a healthy trend. They are also getting behind the camera. The perception that female actors have a shelf life, is now going out of the window. It’s a better work environment now,” says Huma, who has received critical acclaim for her performances in films such as the Gangs of Wasseypur franchise and Badlapur (2015).
