‘Didn’t use celeb con­nect to get work’

Ragini Khanna doesn’t go about telling peo­ple that she’s Govinda’s niece to land roles

Ac­tor Ragini Khanna (right), who has worked in TV shows such as Sa­sural Genda Phool and Radha Ki Betiyaan, is vet­eran ac­tor Govinda’s (in­set) niece. How­ever, she sees this tag of be­ing a star’s rel­a­tive an­noy­ing, and wants to cre­ate her own iden­tity.

“He (Govinda) is a lovely un­cle! I am priv­i­leged to have seen him since the time I was grow­ing up. But I have never told peo­ple about it. Ev­ery choice I have made [in my ca­reer] has been my own. I have never got any calls made from any­one to land a role. I want to achieve every­thing on my own,” says Ragini.

The 29-year-old ac­tor is pop­u­lar for her bub­bly, nextdoor-girl roles on tele­vi­sion. “I have done three fic­tion shows, and my role in each show was very dif­fer­ent. But since the feel of each show was so light-hearted, even my role was tagged ‘bub­bly’,” says Ragini, who wants to be of­fered a va­ri­ety of roles to spice up her act­ing ca­reer.

She has also starred in films such as Teen Thay Bhai (2011; pro­duced by film­maker Rakeysh Om­praksh Mehra), and says that she is get­ting her due as an ac­tor through films. “My fans will see me in a com­pletely dif­fer­ent role in my up­com­ing film. Its teaser is out, and peo­ple have been telling me that it has taken them by sur­prise,” she adds.
