Meet Abhishek Kaushik, the man responsible for creating some avant-garde sets at couture week. We caught him backstage, as he put the finshing touches to Rahul Mishra’s set.

For how many years have you been designing sets?

It has been 10 years. I started on a small scale and for seven years now, I have been working on weddings and even film sets. I’m an architect but I love to design larger-than-life sets.

How did you land up at couture week?

I started with smaller fashion weeks but got in touch with designers at weddings that I worked on. My first show for couture week was two years back, also for Rahul.

What’s the best part of being at fashion weeks?

Sometimes, sets at fashion weeks become monotonous and at times, the setup is so grand that it tends to overpower the garments on the runway. So, I love to come up with creative sets that are subtle yet experimental, so that the attention does not go away from the clothes. For me, giving a designer’s personal touch is crucial.
