Idris Elba wishes for a bigger slice of the superhero movie pie
Actor Idris Elba says that he had a great time working on Thor: Ragnarok and that he wishes to have a bigger role in the superhero universe.
Elba, who returns as the Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall in the third film of the Thor franchise, says that unlike most people of his age who complain about the ubiquity of superhero films, he loves the genre, reports E! Online. “I’ve never felt that way. Weirdly enough, I’ve got, like, the Peter Pan syndrome when it comes to the kinds of films I like... I like that I have a little part in Thor. I’m neither movie star or day player. It allows me to do other things I love,” says Elba.
But, he adds, “I wish I was more present in the [superhero] family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character.”
The 45-year-old actor says that he has never been approached to play anyone but Heimdall, including a role in the upcoming Black Panther film — or any of the superhero properties owned by the studio that produces the Thor movies.
Elba adds that he doesn’t want to sound like he is desperate about it. “It’s been great, but I kinda think I need a bit more. I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that.”
