SWEPT OFF THEIR FEET

In 1971, leg-spinner BS Chandrasekhar took 6/38 in the second innings (8/114 in the match) of the final Test at Oval to rout England for 101 and set up a four-wicket win, handing India their first Test series win in England.

India won 1-0 (2) Series drawn 1-1 (3) India won 1-0 (3) India won 3-0 (3) England won 2-1 (5) In 1993, India routed England 3-0 in the home series, where the spin trio of Anil Kumble, Venkatapathy Raju and Rajesh Chauhan snared 46 of the 60 wickets. Leg-spinner Kumble emerged the chief wrecker with 21 scalps. In the 2001 home series, which India won 1-0, Kumble & Bhajji shared a matchwinning haul of 15 wickets in the first Test in Mohali against England batsmen who were clueless against spin even on a firm pitch.

SPIN WORK

But England will have plenty to adapt to. Against Pakistan in UAE in early 2012, they were dismantled by spin. But Cook said: “We've done a lot of work over the last 12 months, especially since what transpired in the UAE.”

In fact, before England landed here on Monday, they had a two-day camp in Dubai and the focus was on tackling spinners on turning wickets. “Yes, there was a focus on playing spinners in Dubai,” said Flower.
