1984 SIKH RIOTS: OZ MP TO FILE PETITION IN PARLIAMENT
MELBOURNE: An Australian politician will table a signed petition in Parliament this week asking the government to recognise the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India as “genocide”. A statement issued by federal MP Warren Entsch's office said, “The nation's Sikh community has enlisted the help of Entsch to have Australia recognise the killings as genocide." The issue was first raised by a Sikh Community member in Cairns, Daljit Singh. "Every person on this planet who believes in equality and peace for mankind should support this," Singh said.
