‘No evidence in Rajiv case was suppressed’
NEW DELHI: The CBI on Tuesday refuted the allegations that MK Narayanan — now West Bengal governor — as IB chief ‘suppressed’ Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination video.
K Ragothaman, a former CBI officer, has claimed in his book that a video purportedly showing Rajiv’s assassin Thenmozhi Rajaratnam —also known as Dhanu—at a public meeting in Sriperumbudur on the fateful day had been suppressed by then IB chief M K Narayanan.
“The CBI meticulously probed Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. Its investigation was praised by the Supreme Court. The question of any suppression of evidence does not arise,” said a CBI officer.
A letter by Narayanan to then PM Chandrashekar makes a reference to the video but it was never brought to the notice of the special investigating team, its then chief investigating officer K Ragothaman has said in his latest book Conspiracy to kill Rajiv Gandhi - from CBI files.
