Congress organisational rejig likely only after Gujarat polls
NEW DELHI: The much-anticipated reshuffle of the Congress party may take place only after the Gujarat elections, top sources in the party said.
The rejig in the party, after the reshuffle of the Union council of ministers last month, is anticipated as a major exercise with an eye on the 2014 general elections.
The assembly polls in Gujarat are scheduled in two phases on December 13 and 17. The counting will take place on December 20, along with Himachal poll counting. The party may also opt to hold its chintan shivir (brainstorming session) at Jaipur ahead of the organisational reshuffle. A section of the

party feels that the brainstorming session will enable the party to set its priorities and goals and the leaders can be given assignments accordingly.
Political circles are abuzz with the possibility of Rahul Gandhi formally assuming a larger responsibility in the Congress organisation. Gandhi had once again turned down the offer top join the Union cabinet last month and indicated that he wants to remain focused on rejuvenating the party.
Party sources suggested that many leaders are currently busy with the Gujarat campaign. The ongoing Parliament session-that is scheduled till December 20is also keeping the party brass occupied.
The reshuffle is also likely to be the last one before the 2014 polls. In the recent cabinet reshuffle, senior leaders like Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik and Subodh kant Sahay were divested of their ministerial responsibilities to assign key organisational jobs. These former ministers along with other senior leaders like Madhusudan Mistry are set to get crucial responsibilities. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has been handed over the charge of the coordination committee and he would be assisted by three sub-panels.
