Contempt petition against VCs’ continuance
PATNA: Barely a week after the Patna high court quashed the appointment of six vice chancellors (VCs) and four pro-VCs while reaffirming the primacy of the chancellor in appointment matters, has a contempt petition been filed in the Patna high court — this time questioning the con- tinuance of the same set of VCs.
The chancellor had on December 10 last issued a notification asking the VCs to continue in the interim period, till such time as fresh arrangements are made under section 13 of the Bihar state universities act, 1976. Ram Tavakya Singh, who was the petitioner in the earlier case also, moved the contempt petition on Monday on the pretext that section 13 was not applicable here.
“Section 13 comes into play only when there is a vacancy. Here, there is no issue of any vacancy being involved as the VCs were asked to continue. So, there was no temporary arrangement; rather the old arrangement was maintained,” said Singh, while talking to HT.
