Shut­down in Kash­mir over De­cem­ber 28 fir­ing

SRINAGAR: The Kash­mir val­ley was un­der a curfew on Mon­day fol­low­ing a call for a shut­down in protest against the in­ci­dent of fir­ing last week by se­cu­rity forces in Pul­wama district. The call was given by hard­line Hur­riyat chair­man Syed Ali Shah Gee­lani and mod­er­ate Hur­riyat head Mir­waiz Umar Fa­rooq. The sep­a­ratists ac­cused the se­cu­rity forces of “un­pro­voked and in­dis­crim­i­nate fir­ing” on De­cem­ber 28, which left seven civil­ians in­jured.
