Ab­ducted vil­lager lynched at Maoist jan adalat

GAYA: An ab­ducted Gaya vil­lager was beaten to death af­ter a Maoist jan adalat (kan­ga­roo court) or­dered its cadres to thrash him late on Fri­day night.

The vic­tim, Janki Ya­dav, and Shar­van Das were ear­lier ab­ducted from Nandai and Aurwa Tand vil­lages re­spec­tively un­der Du­mari po­lice sta­tion on Thurs­day night and taken to the dense Panan­wan for­est of Bhokha pan­chayat.

Vil­lage sources said Ya­dav was pro­duced be­fore a hur­riedly or­gan­ised jan adalat in the for­est. Hold­ing him guilty of de­fy­ing a Maoist dik­tat to give up his claim over a piece of land, the jan adalat or­dered the armed squad to thrash Ya­dav with ba­tons, the sources said. Ya­dav died while the “pun­ish­ment” was be­ing ex­e­cuted, the sources added.

Ya­dav’s fam­ily mem­bers were then called to Panan­wan where they were handed over the body at around 9.30 pm. Das, how­ever, man­aged to es­cape from the clutches of Maoists. The po­lice are look­ing for him.

Mean­while, two un­cles of Janki Ya­dav--Te­tar Ya­dav and Nagesher Ya­dav--andtheir­son­sMan­tuYa­dav, Kam­lesh Ya­dav and Mu­narik Ya­dav have been made ac­cused in thecase,saidDu­maris­ta­tion­house of­fi­cer Awd­hesh Singh.

In protest against the kid­nap­ping and sub­se­quent “ex­e­cu­tion” of Janki Ya­dav, an­gry vil­lagers blocked the Du­mari­aI­mam­ganj road for an hour on Satur­day. The block­ade was lifted at the in­ter­ven­tion of the Dum­ria po­lice, who that took pos­ses­sion of the vic­timm’s body and sent it to the ANMMCH here for au­topsy, said Singh.

Gaya city suprint­en­dent of po­lice Akhter Hus­sain said the district po­lice along­with the Co­BRA jawans had jointly launched a comb­ing op­er­a­tion in and around Bhokha pan­chayat to track down the Maoists.
