High court orders DND flyway to be made toll-free

- Jitendra Sarin letters@hindustantimes.com

NEW DELHI: The Allahabad high court on Wednesday ordered the Noida Toll Bridge Company Ltd (NTBCL) to stop collecting toll tax from commuters on the privately-funded Delhi-NoidaDirect (DND) Flyway.

The DND Flyway connects Delhi on the west bank of the Yamuna with Noida and Delhi.

The petitioner said the Noida authority had not advertised the tender for collection of toll and arbitrarily entered into a contract with NTBCL for the collection of toll for a period of 30 years. On the other hand, NTBCL said its contract with Noida Authority is binding and collection of toll over the bridge is less than the estimates according to the contract. Hence, the liability of Noida Authority has only increased in last few years as per the contract.

The road is used by around 1,25,000 vehicles on a weekday.
