GYM IS THE NEW AIRPORT FOR THE STYLE BRIGADE
Perfectly poised handbag, limited-edition sunglasses and no extra luggage in sight — for a star, the business of dressing at the airport is no less than a red carpet event. But, the shutterbugs have moved on. While the proverbial paparazzi still hits the airport, stars in their gymwear are stealing the show now. From gyms, pilates studios to yoga centres — the focus has shifted to activewear. Bollywood besties, Amrita Arora Ladak, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malaika Arora are clicked by photogs outside their fitness centers, and more often than not, happily pose for them too. The same goes for star couples, such as Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover and Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput. In a recent interview with PTI, agreeing that fitgear is fashionable, Malaika said, “World over, being fashionably fit is in. Gone are the days where people would hide away from being seen in their gym wear.” Actor Sophie Choudry thinks that it’s a part of being in the public eye. “I’m someone who likes to be well turned out, regardless of shutterbugs. That doesn’t mean one is dressed to the nines all the time but at least be dressed appropriately. It can be a bit disconcerting after a long flight, post a sweaty gym session or on a bad hair day, but I guess, it’s part of the deal that people are interested in your style, which is a compliment! It’s nice for people to see celebs in their regular looks. Using stylists for airport looks is a bit too much though,” she said. The trend is also amped by luxury sportswear taking on the market. “High-end gym wear is a major phenomenon at the moment. With more and more people accepting fitness as a part of their lifestyle and being inspired by the fabulous bodies that the celebrities have, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing a surge in fashionable gym wear,” says designer Urvashi Kaur.
