BJP’s Jyoti Kiran is 5th state finance commission’s head
JAIPUR: BJP leader Jyoti Kiran was on Saturday appointed as the chairperson of the 5th state finance commission. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje recently gave nod to the commission.
Kiran, a PhD in economics, will enjoy the cabinet rank, said the notification of her appointment.
The government has also appointed a retired IAS officer SC Derashri as member secretary of the commission. According to official sources, it is usually a political posting filled with a member of ruling party.
Kiran was the former spokesperson of the party and taught economics at the University of Rajasthan. She played active role during recent political elections in which the BJP registered thumping victory.
Kiran said she would work for strengthening the economical structure of the state.
The commission, which will remain effective for five years starting from April 1 this year, is expected to submit its first report of financial planning for local bodies and panchayati raj institutes by November 30 this year, said an official.
