Chaos at RU as teachers call for exam boycott

University of Rajasthan (RU) is in the eye of the storm after the arrest of four professors, one retired professor and two employees in connection with the paper leak case. Alleging that the Rajasthan police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) ‘arbitrary’ action has instilled fear among them, the teachers of the university have called for a boycott of the exams, which will start from April 25.

The SOG had arrested the five professors and two employees.

Students of the university are apprehensi­ve after finding out about the boycott. “Six papers have already been cancelled due to leaks and will be conducted again. If the teachers boycott the exams it’s going to create problems for students,” said Pawan Yadav, a student of MA public administra­tion at the university.

He, too, felt that the SOG’s actions were arbitrary. “The SOG is picking up anyone and taking them away for questionin­g,” he added.

Another student, Dron Yadav, doing LLM at the university, said that the SOG actions were welcome but the agency should act with some sensitivit­y. “A professor has a reputation. If the SOG picks up a professor for questionin­g and later lets him off, his reputation will be tarnished forever,” said Dron.
