THE POLICE HAVE ALSO MANAGED TO TRACE THE TWO WOMEN, AND ARE NOW LOOKING FOR THE REMAINING ACCUSED

The UP police on Sunday arrested a minor and the man who allegedly filmed two women being molested by a group of men in a case that raised questions over women safety. Police also managed to trace the two women, who were to undergo a medical examination on Monday.

“Our teams have arrested one Saddam Khan and a minor in a raid last night. Saddam is the one who shot the video on his phone and circulated it,” Rampur superintendent of police Vipin Tada said on Monday.

Police have nabbed three of the 14 accused who allegedly harassed and molested the women in Tanda district’s Rampur town.

The main accused, Shahnawaz Qadri, was arrested on Saturday night, hours after the video was widely shared online.

The three-minute footage shows the men surrounding the women and groping them on a roadside near a poplar plantation.

The date of the incident is not known but police hope to get more details now that they have tracked the victims.

“After the medical, we will present them in front of a magistrate to record their statements,” the SP said. Four teams are looking for the remaining accused.

The BJP, which stormed to power in the state in March, had promised to improve the law and order situation and ensure women safety.

Within days of taking over as the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath ordered “anti-Romeo” squads to check harassment but it ran into trouble over moral policing. The government renamed the force Nari Suraksha Bal and issued guidelines for them.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on Monday declared results for both Class 12 and Class 10, with girls once again outshining boys. Class 12 saw a pass percentage of 96.47, while 98.53% students passed Class 10.

Kolkata girl Ananya Maity has emerged as the Class 12 all India topper with 99.5%. Pune’s Muskan Abdulla Pathan and Bengaluru’s Ashwin Rao have jointly topped the Class 10 exams with 99.4% each.

ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) Examination, 2017, showed a marginal increase in pass percentages over the previous year’s results, said Gerry Arathoon, CEO of the Council.

A total of 73,633 students from 988 schools had appeared for the Class 12 examination which was conducted in 50 written subjects of which 16 were Indian languages, five foreign languages and one classical language.
