2 MORE FARM­ERS END LIVES

Two farm­ers al­legedly ended their lives in Mad­hya Pradesh within the last 24 hours, tak­ing the to­tal num­ber of agri­cul­tur­ere­lated sui­cides in the state to 15 since June 6 vi­o­lent protests in Mand­saur.

An el­derly farmer re­port­edly hanged self on Mon­day in Sehore, the home district of chief min­is­ter Shivraj Singh Chouhan, tak­ing the sui­cide death toll to 14 since the June 6 vi­o­lent protests across Mad­hya Pradesh.

Ban­shi Lal had taken loan of ₹3 lakh from a bank and ₹5 lakh from lo­cal money lenders in Sehore, 43 kms from state cap­i­tal Bhopal, said lo­cal sources.

Meena’s son Manoj said his fa­ther owned nine acre land and was un­able to re­pay a loan of ₹11 lakh.

In Vidisha , farmer Jee­van Singh Meena com­mit­ted sui­cide by hang­ing him­self from the branch of a mango tree on Sun­day night Ac­cord­ing to his fam­ily mem­bers, he was in de­pres­sion due to fi­nan­cial prob­lems. Tehsil­dar San­tosh Bi­toliya, how­ever , told lo­cal me­dia it was not clear whether Meena had com­mit­ted sui­cide due to some loan or fam­ily dis­pute.
