Rajasthan to write off ₹20,000 cr farm loans
The Rajasthan government on Thursday announced loan waiver up to ₹50,000 for farmers, which will cost the exchequer ₹20,000 crore and which is likely to benefit over 600,000 farmers.
The announcement came shortly past midnight after a marathon meeting that lasted 11 hours. The government will constitute a high level team that will study the loan waiver process applied in other states — Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka — agriculture minister Prabhulal Saini said.
“The experience of states that have given loan waivers has not proved beneficial. We want to im– plement this properly so it actually benefits farmers,” he said.
