BARMER POLICE REGISTERED A CASE OF KIDNAPPING, ABETMENT TO SUICIDE AND RAPE AGAINST THE ACCUSED

:A 19-year-old woman in Barmer ended her life on Tuesday morning after a man, who allegedly kidnapped her and later raped her, threatened to defame her if she reported the crime.

Police registered a case of kidnapping, abetment to suicide and rape against the accused on the complaint given by the woman’s father.

Chohtan police station chief Surendra Kumar Prajapat said that a case under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc), 306 (abetment of suicide), 450 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life) of the India Penal Code was registered on Tuesday night.

“The woman’s father said she jumped into a water tank outside their house on Tuesday morning but the family found out about the suicide in the evening and reported it to us,” he said.

Prajapat said police were looking for the accused.

In the complaint, the woman’s father alleged that she was kidnapped from their house on Monday night and raped at an isolated place. The accused was threatening to defame her if she reported the crime. This, the father said, led to the woman’s suicide.

The SHO said the case was registered on the basis of the father’s complaint.

“The body of the woman was given to the family after the postmortem,” he added.

This is second such case in Barmer. Earlier, another rape victim had ended her life after being threatened by the accused. In that case, the victim had approached the police several times but was ignored by the police, which led her to commit suicide. MUKESH MATHRANI
