A student of BA first year was allegedly kidnapped and raped in Thakurdwara town of Moradabad when she was returning home after appearing for an examination on Thursday evening, police said.

J Ravindra Gaud, Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Moradabad, said the 18-year-old victim belonged to Bijnor and had come to Thakurdwara for her undergraduate examination.

The girl’s father lodged an FIR at Thakurdwara police station after the girl reached home and informed the family about the incident.

Gaud said the girl alleged that a man, who also belonged to Bijnor, forcibly took her on a motorcycle and raped her after dragging her into a roadside sugarcane field. He said it was not clear if the accused, whose identity could not be ascertained, was known to the girl.

Gaud said the accused was on the run and efforts were on to arrest him.

“Medical examination was conducted on the girl on Thursday night. Teams have been formed to arrest the accused,” Gaud said, adding the victim would record her statement before the magistrate on Monday.
