Sedan crashes into dumper; 5 teachers, 3 children killed

Eight people were killed and three injured in a road accident near Kherad village on Udaipur-Banswara state highway (SH-10) on Saturday morning, police said.
Among the dead were 5 school teachers and three children. “As per primary investigation, the accident was result of a sedan car crashing into a dumper. The impact was so severe that five teachers and three children were killed on the spot,” said Prem Dhande, circle officer of Salumar, which falls in Udaipur district.
“Three others are injured and currently undergoing treatment at Maharana Bhupal Singh hospital in Udaipur,” Dhande said.
According to the police, some teachers and students of a private school were going for a picnic at the Salumber waterfall in three different cars. “The car that crashed was foremost in the queue and the school principal, identified as Preksha Choudhary, was driving the car. The dumper has been seized,” Dhande said.
The deceased have been identified as Manisha Goswami (28), Monica Khateek (22), Santosh Rajput (28), Saroj Yadav(26) and Geeta Meghwal (38) — all of them teachers — Upendra Rajput (7), Lakshya Yadav (4) and Sananya Chaudhary (8) — all of them students. The injured have been identified as Preksha Choudhary (25), Payal Sevak (22) and Karan Choudhary (6).
Chief minister Vasundhara Raje and state Congress president Sachin Pilot expressed their grief on Twitter. “The news of road accident in Udaipur killing of eight people, including school children is extremely sad and unfortunate. May god give strength to the family members of the deceased. I wish speedy recovery of the injured,” Raje tweeted.
Pilot twitted, “Deeply saddened by loss of life of 8 people including school children in a road accident at #Udaipur, #Rajasthan. My heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.”
