Odisha woman says wrong leg was operated upon

BHUBANESWA­R: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a Dalit woman in Odisha’s backward district of Keonjhar on Sunday complained that her wrong leg had been operated by the medical staff of a sub-divisional hospital where she went for treatment. Mitarani Jena is in her early 40s, a resident of Khabil village, who went for treating a wound on her left leg at the Anandpur sub-divisional hospital complained that the staff at the hospital operated her right leg instead of left after administer­ing anesthesia. According to Mitarani’s family members, she had been suffering from intense pain on her left ankle following which she was taken for a medical check-up. After inspecting the patient’s condition, the doctor said an infected wound needed a surgery.
