Repairs on to curb power failures
VASHI: As residents await cooling showers, civic agencies are busy ensuring that there are no untoward incidents during the monsoon. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has kicked off pre-monsoon maintenance work in the city to reduce power failures and prevent accidents during the rains.
Common incidents that take place during monsoon are short circuits, loose connections, and inadequate maintenance of connections. MSEDCL executive engineer SD Surwade, who was transferred to the Vashi division from Nashik recently, said, “The department has started earthing work for transformers, changing covers of DP boxes, strengthening overhead supply lines, trimming trees and checking oil levels in transformers. We are also making efforts to prevent short circuits, and are repairing loose electric connections.”
Trees falling on supply lines lead to power disruption in several parts of the city. Surwade said that pruning of trees and branches will be carried out before the monsoon. “We are doing our best to ensure that residents do not face any problem during the monsoon.”
Surwade added: “At Shivaji chowk in Vashi, a new construction is underway and is likely to damage the underground wiring. I am trying to contact NMMC authorities to get it sorted before the monsoon.”
