MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: The spot-fixing scandal may have made headlines for a fortnight and landed three cricketers in jail but it now looks as if there is a real risk that the investigations will peter out without getting to the root of the problem or any big fish who may be involved.

Police sources in Mumbai said investigations into the Twenty20 league may only scratch the surface. Little progress has been made in tracing the money trail with no proof yet of any financial transactions between arrested CSK boss Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan, and Bollywood actor, Vindoo Dara Singh, two of the key figures in the police net.

The Delhi police, who got the ball rolling by arresting Rajasthan Royals’ S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, are making confident noises about filing the chargesheet within 90 days.
