MUMBAI: Marathwada may be experiencing its worst water crisis in a decade, but a different battle is brewing in political circles, ahead of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ central Maharashtra tour.

When Fadnavis announced that he will tour Marathwada, Ahmedna g ar and Solapur from September 1, he also targeted the previous CongressNationalist Congress Party ( NCP) government for alleged corruption i n distribution of relief material. The Opposition parties, on their part, blamed the government for flaws in providing relief to the affected areas.

The battle i s set t o gain momentum next week, with the NCP threatening a jail bharo andolan starting September 14. NCP chief and former Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, who recently visited Marathwada, has said t he government must get ready to face state-wide protests if they fail to act.

The party’s state unit president Sunil Tatkare said the government’s approach has been “too casual”.
