Schools to ignite minds on Kalam’s birthday
While students across the country will celebrate the birth anniversary of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on Thursday with no school bags and by reading inspirational books, city students have more activities to look forward to.
The state education department has notified the day to be celebrated as no school bag day and Vaachan Prerna Divas or Reading Inspiration Day. However, students of Class 1 to 8 in the city will participate in various extra-curricular events.
Vashi-based St Lawrence School has planned clay modelling, story narration and collage-making events for the primary section.
“The students of class 5 and 6 will participate in essay writing and newsletter writing competitions. The students of class 7 and 8 will exchange story books and make presentations on life of Dr Kalam,” said Shanti Krishnan, a faculty from the school.
Students at Ryan International School in Kharghar will be soaking their minds in science programmes.“They will engage in various theme-based science projects under the science club. They will also enact stories. Students will also present innovative ideas,” said Alice Vaz, the principal of the school.
St Augustine school in Nerul has lined up programmes to mark Dr Kalam’s birthday.
“None of the students from class 1 to 8 will bring school bags and have been instructed to bring story books of their choice to exchange and read. We also have an avid reader competition where the best reader will be awarded,” said Maria Lobo, faculty in the school.
Podar International in Nerul will organise a quiz competition, ‘Drishti 2020’, to connect young minds with Dr Kalam’s Vision 2020.
