Man who mur­dered wife ar­rested from Kar­nataka

KAMOTHE: Three days af­ter a 33-year-old man fled af­ter re­peat­edly stab­bing his wife the po­lice have ar­rested the man, who is a videog­ra­pher.

On Sun­day night, Salim alias Azharud­ding Shaikh had re­peat­edly stabbed his wife An­wari, 28, with a kitchen knife fol­low­ing an ar­gu­ment at their res­i­dence in Sec­tor 12, Kamothe.

While Salim fled af­ter the in­ci­dent, An­wari was rushed to MGM hospi­tal in Kamothe, where she suc­cumbed to her in­juries on Mon­day morn­ing.

The po­lice teams were look­ing for Salim in Mum­bai and his na­tive place in Kar­nataka.

“A team sent to Ba­galkot in Kar­nataka ar­rested Shaikh from Ja­makhandi on Tues­day,” said Sri­ram Mullemwar, se­nior in­spec­tor, Kamothe po­lice sta­tion.

“The court has re­manded him in po­lice cus­tody for five days,” added Mullemwar.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the cou­ple had been mar­ried for eight years and fought reg­u­larly. An­wari’s fa­ther Shaikh Qam­rud­din told the po­lice the cou­ple had prob­lems as they did not have a child and Salim was also an al­co­holic.
