The state anti-ter­ror­ist squad of Thane unit on Tues­day ar­rested a 32-year-old man and seized around 2,000 fake doc­u­ments such as PAN and Aad­haar cards. The ac­cused is An­sar­ali Amir Ali An­sari, a res­i­dent of Bhi­wandi. “We ar­rested An­sari on Tues­day. He has been re­manded in po­lice cus­tody till Oc­to­ber 31,” said Sushil Jawle, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor, Thane ATS.

The ac­cused was caught af­ter 20 peo­ple, sus­pected to be Bangladeshis, were re­cently ar­rested from Nar­poli in Bhi­wandi for al­legedly stay­ing in the coun­try il­le­gally.

“We ar­rested them af­ter a tip-off. Af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tion, we traced An­sari, who used to pre­pare the fake doc­u­ments for them. More than three peo­ple had got their fake pass­ports,” added Jawle. “We have sent the seized doc­u­ments to se­nior of­fi­cers to check the sta­tus of the peo­ple liv­ing in and around Thane and Bhi­wandi,” said Vikas Ghodke, po­lice in­spec­tor of Thane ATS.
